Frequently Asked Questions
How do I register a team for the corporate challenge?
You can register a team for Corporate Challenge right now by going to our Home Page and selecting the “Register Here To Create A Team, Join A Team Or Volunteer For Corporate Challenge “. You’ll need to give your team a unique name.
Why can't I register my favourite team name online?
If you are not able to register your team with your favourite name, it is most likely because another team has already registered that name for the event. Team names are allocated on a first come, first served basis.
How many people have to be on my team?
Corporate Challenge teams are required to have 8 people at each event. While you may enter a team of 12 people, most teams will have team members to allow for bathroom breaks, etc. In addition to the 8-12 team members, each team may provide a minimum of two volunteers for the event. These volunteers will be used in various roles throughout the event (e.g. assisting at an event, selling refreshment tickets, parking control, etc.). Our volunteer coordinator will contact your teams’ volunteers via email to ensure they are signed up for the volunteer activity of their choice. All volunteers will be provided with lunch, two refreshment tickets and a volunteer t-shirt; and will participate in a fun-filled day while helping our charity to meet its fundraising goals.
How do I volunteer if I am not part of a team?
You can register a team for Corporate Challenge right now by going to our Home Page and selecting the “Register Here To Create A Team, Join A Team ” button on the right side navigation bar then on the next screen go to the bottom of the page where it says “Volunteer Opportunities” and scroll down and find a role that you would be best suited for. All volunteers will be provided with lunch, two refreshment tickets and a volunteer t-shirt; and will participate in a fun-filled day while helping our charity to meet its fundraising goals.
Why does this event have a $600 entry fee and expect teams to fundraise in addition?
The entry fee is used to offset the costs of running Corporate Challenge (i.e. event costs, tent rentals, equipment rentals, waste containers, port-o-potties, security, police, volunteer lunches etc. etc.). With that being said, with the increase of the minimum wage in 2018, most / if not all of our venders prices have increased which reflects the registration increase for 2018 and moving forward. This increase will help keep our event the high standard of excellence we have tried to maintain for 9 years and will insure all of our participants have a great experience!
How many sponsors do I need?
Each Corporate Challenge team is asked to fundraise a minimum of $1,200 as a team. If this min. fundraising goal is not achieved then your team will not be able to participate in the event. For a team of 12 members this is only $100 each, however most participants raise much more. You may raise these funds through any combination of online (i.e. email blast to your contacts), offline (i.e. pledge sheets), or event (i.e. bake sale, etc.) fundraising methods.
When will the corporate challenge send out tax receipts for pledges and donations?
Donors who’ve pledged online should receive electronic tax receipts by e-mail within minutes of making their pledge. Offline tax receipts will be processed as soon as possible after receipt of funds from the teams. Tax receipts for team pledges are issued by Merrymount Family Support and Crisis Centre in accordance with CRA guidelines. Pledges of $20.00 or more will receive a tax receipt.
What do I do with the money I have collected offline?
Your Team Captain will collect the funds raised offline by his/her team members and submit them on “The Captain’s Meeting” prior to the event. The Captain’s Meeting will allow early submission of team paperwork, helping to avoid line-ups at the event and give an overview of the event..
Can I participate on my own?
No. Corporate Challenge is a team event. You must be part of a team to participate. Consider registering as a Team Captain by creating a new team and using our handy e-mail invitations to ask your co-workers to join your team. You may also wish to volunteer for our event, which can be done as an individual.
How can my company get involved if we cannot field a team on event day?
If your company wants to participate, but does not have the number of members required for a team, you may involve friends and family to fill out the required numbers for your team. Alternatively, you may want to consider Volunteering for our event and requesting to be kept together for the day when speaking to our Volunteer Coordinator. You can also find out about other opportunities to get involved, such as corporate sponsorship, donations, etc. by contacting us.
